The Andhra Pradesh State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has voiced strong opposition to Government Order (G.O.) 137, which sanctions the allocation of government and APSRTC land to the Lulu Group, a multinational corporation. CPI(M) State Secretary V. Srinivasa Rao condemned the decision, criticizing the allotment of nearly 18 acres of prime public land in Visakhapatnam and Vijayawada for commercial purposes such as building a Lulu Mall. He accused the government of undermining public interest by offering a 99-year lease on nominal terms, effectively giving away public assets under the pretext of development.
Rao warned that such decisions would severely impact small and medium-sized traders in the region, already burdened by the growing presence of large corporate retailers. He argued that encouraging multinational firms like Lulu would lead to widespread job losses and business closures, further weakening the local economy. Urging the State government to revoke G.O. 137, he called for measures to safeguard public property and support indigenous businesses rather than favoring global conglomerates. CPI(M) State secretary terms the G.O. a threat to small and medium businesses and employment in the State.
