The Andhra Pradesh government has allocated ₹194 crore to build 100 new Primary Health Centres (PHCs) as part of its push to strengthen rural healthcare infrastructure. These PHCs will be constructed under the supervision of the Roads and Buildings Department. Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced this initiative while inaugurating a new Village Health Clinic (VHC) in Edigapalli village. He emphasized that VHCs align with vision of making healthcare more accessible at the grassroots level. Funded by the 15th Finance Commission, these clinics will offer diagnostics and treatment services near people’s homes, staffed with Community Health Officers, ANMs, and ASHAs, and equipped with 14 essential diagnostic tests and 105 types of free medicines.
Minister Yadav also discussed broader health initiatives, including the Non-Communicable Diseases 3.0 survey, which screens adults over 18 for serious conditions like hypertension, diabetes, and cancer to enable early intervention. He highlighted the success of the STEMI initiative, which provides free cardiac injections worth ₹45,000, saving nearly 4,000 lives. Additionally, he stated that the Centre had approved 10,032 VHCs for Andhra Pradesh, funded by the 14th and 15th Finance Commissions. However, he criticized the previous Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy administration for mismanaging health funds, resulting in the construction of only 3,000 clinics. The event was attended by senior officials and coalition leaders from Chittoor and Tirupati districts.
